Danish violinist Sofie Thorsbro Dan (26) lives in Berlin and performs throughout Europe as an interpreter of contemporary music.
She was educated from The Royal Academy of Music Aarhus with Emile Cantor and Michelle Makarski, at The University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Ernst Kovacic and at The University of Music and Performing Arts Graz from where she graduated with a Master’s Degree in “Performance Pratice in Contemporary Music” with Klangforum Wien in 2015.
During her studies she attended several courses with violinists as Ruben Aharonian, Milan Vitek, Eszter Haffner, Mark Gothoni, Graeme Jennings, Annette Bik and Priya Mitchell. She has worked with composers including Helmut Lachenmann, Simon Steen-Andersen, Olga Neuwirth, Beat Furrer, Georg-Friedrich Haas, Bernhard Lang, Georges Aperghis, Tristan Murail, Matthias Pintscher, Gerd Kühr, Klaus Lang and conductors as Alan Gilbert, Susanna Mälkki, Emilio Pomàrico, Simone Young, Péter Eötvös and Clement Power.
Sofie Thorsbro Dan is regularly invited to renowned festivals and scenes for contemporary music and has played in venues such as Wiener Konzerthaus, Radiokulturhaus Wien, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Lucerne Concert Hall, Berliner Philharmonie, Berliner Konzerthaus, Porgy & Bess, Danish Radio Concert Hall, Wiener Festwochen, Wien Modern, Unsafe&Sounds Festival, Impuls Festival, ZOOM! Festival, SPOR Festival, Klangspuren Schwaz, Tage Neuer Musik Graz, Signale Graz, open music, International Summer Academy Salzburg, Salzburger Festspiele, Lucerne Festival, Donaueschinger Musiktage, International Summer Course for New Music Darmstadt and performed with ensembles as Klangforum Wien, Scenatet, Schallfeld Ensemble, Prometheus Ensemble, Lydenskab, szene instrumental, Studio Dan and Kammerensemble für Neue Musik Berlin.
